Guy E. Abraham, M.D.

Dr. Abraham is a former Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Endocrinology at the UCLA School of Medicine. Some thirty-seven years ago, he pioneered the development of assays to measure minute quantities of steroid hormones in biological fluids. He has been honored as follows: General Diagnostic Award from the Canadian Association of Clinical Chemists, 1974; the Medaille d’Honneur from the University of Liegc, Belgium, 1976; the Senior Investigator Award of Pharmacia, Sweden, 1980. Twenty-six years ago, Dr. Abraham developed magnesium emphasized nutritional programs for women with premenstrual tension syndrome and post-menopausal osteoporosis. Eight years ago he initiated the Iodine Project, a re-evaluation of the role of the essential element iodine in medical practice.

David Brownstein, M.D.

Dr. Brownstein is a family physician and is one of the foremost practitioners of holistic medicine. He is the Medical Director of the Center for Holistic Medicine in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Dr. Brownstein has lectured internationally to physicians and others about his success in using natural hormones and nutritional therapies in his practice. Dr. Brownstein specializes in the use of vitamins, minerals, herbs and natural hormones and he is the author of six books on these subjects. These books illustrate the success he has had in treating many different conditions, including: chronic fatigue syndrome, headaches, migraine headaches, heart disease, menopausal symptoms, fibromyalgia, immune disorders and thryoid disorders.

Jorge D. Flechas, M.D., MPH

Dr. Flechas is the Medical Director of Flechas Family Practice in Hendersonville, North Carolina, specializing in hormonal therapy for treatment in Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS). He also specializes in Iodine Therapy for Hypothyroidism and Fibrocystic Breast Disease. He is on the family practice staff of Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher, North Carolina and is licensed to practice in North Carolina. He had his boards in Family Practice by the America Board of Family Practice, and is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and American College of Nutrition.

Mitchell A. Fleisher, M.D., D.Ht., D.A.B.F.M., Dc.A.B.C.T.

Dr. Mitch Fleisher is a board-certified family physician specializing in classical homeopathy, nutritional and botanical medicine, chelation and bio-oxidative therapy with over twenty years experience practicing the gentler art and science of integrative medicine. Dr. Fleisher has served as an active member of the clinical faculty of the National Center for Homeopathy, a Clinical instructor for the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center and at the Medical College of Virginia, where he has taught homeopathy in the introductory complementary medicine programs. Dr. Fleisher lectures throughout the U.S. and internationally on classical homeopathy and nutritional therapy to both medical professionals and the lay public.

Tim Guilford, M.D.

Dr. Guilford graduated from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Texas Medical Branch. He completed two years of general surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and an ENT surgery residency at the University of Michigan. Dr. Guilford has been in clinical practice since 1979. In 1985 he introduced complementary medical approaches into his practice. The concept that chronic inflammation functions as a causative factor in illness became apparent while he was the director of a laboratory specializing in in-vitro allergy and viral immunology testing (1982-1992). He began using metal detoxification methods in 1995, and research into the toxicity of mercury lead to the observation that glutathione is critical in the defense against heavy metals.

Eric Hassid, M.D.

Dr. Hassid received his medical degree from George Washington University and completed his neurology residency with the United States Army. He also completed a rehabilitation neurology fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Hassid has extensive continuing education in the area of functional medicine and is board certified in neurology as well as anti-aging and regenerative medicine. Dr. Hassid is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American Society of Neurorehabilitation, the Movement Disorder Society, the Institute for Functional Medicine, and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Dr. Hassid recently worked for Sutter West Medical Group, The Permanente Medical Group and the United States Army Medical Corps, where he was instrumental in developing interdisciplinary neurological rehabilitation, motor control management and pain management programs Dr. Hassid’s professional interests include general neurology, disorders of motor control, balance and gait disorders, neurological-based pain syndromes and functional medicine.

Chris D. Meletis, N.D.

Dr. Meletis has served as the Chief Medical Officer and Dean of Naturopathic Medicine for the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) for seven years and subsequently served as the NCNM’s Senior Science Officer. In his many roles, he represented the NCNM in the areas of scientific publication, media relations, Institutional Review Board (IRB) and state mandated pain management program participation. Dr. Meletis has served as the Chairman of International Association of Naturopathy—Japan, a title he has held since June 2004. Dr. Meletis is an internationally recognized expert in his field and is the author of 14 books and more than 200 nationally published health and wellness articles. Dr. Meletis is frequently called upon to lecture on various topics including metabolic syndrome, women’s health, cardiovascular health and herb/drug interactions. Dr. Meletis serves as the Executive Director for the Institute for Healthy Aging (IHA), a non-profit educational organization committed to educating the public, professional community and media on the latest scientific advances in natural medicine research as it pertains to healthy aging.

Carolyn M. Pierini, CLS (ASCP), CNC

Carolyn Pierini is a licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist, certified with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and a specialist in medical microbiology. Her 19 years at St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, Ca. include the Departments of Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Immunology but predominately the Microbiology Department including R&D and educator. Observing different dietary effects on microbial morphology with what is now termed nutrigenomic science, her passion transferred to human nutrigenomics. Applying her biochemistry background to functional medicine has led to uncovering innovative applications for laboratory science such as analyzing standard blood/urine chemistries for patterns related to nutrition, metabolism and potential pathology. She earned a Masters with the Institute for Human Individuality and is a member of the American Society for Microbiology.

Jeffrey Reinhardt, M.Sc.

Jeffrey brings his academic training in the life sciences at Rutgers University and over thirty years of experience in the natural products industry to Vitamin Research Products. Jeffrey has a diverse background in academic, industrial and agricultural research, product development, and regulatory and legal affairs. He is a co-recipient of the American Academy of Dermatology Gold Medal Award for Original Research for his work in defining the roles of nutrition and stress on the immune system and skin disorders. As Chief Science Officer, Jeffrey provides scientific rationales for the design of state-of-the-art formulations to support high level wellness, resistance to stress and chronic degenerative disease.

Frank Shallenberger, M.D.
