Coleus Forskohlii Studied for Healthy Blood Pressure

According to a new study, Coleus forskohlii supports optimal blood pressure management in older adults. Coleus forskohlii is an Ayurvedic botanical used for cardiovascular and respiratory health.

Forty-nine older adults between 50 and 80 years of age who had suboptimal blood pressure management took Coleus forskohlii supplements, either as a tablet or Ghana vati, a chewable, pea-shaped supplement. Researchers assessed the subjects for blood pressure at the beginning of the study and again after the supplementation period. Scientists also evaluated the subjects for additional symptoms and completed a psychiatric questionnaire.

The results revealed that treatment using both forms of Coleus forskohlii enhanced blood pressure management. In the Coleus forskohlii Ghana vati supplement group, over 76 percent of subjects showed some improvement in blood pressure, and 75 percent of subjects receiving the Coleus forskohlii tablet showed mild enhancement of blood pressure management.

Thus, the study indicates that Coleus forskohlii supports healthy blood pressure management in older adults.
