Toxins Are Widespread in Newborns
by Carolyn Pierini, CLS (ASCP), CNC
In 2004, the non-profit Environmental Working Group (EWG) examined cord blood, which circulates between mother and baby, from infants born in U.S. hospitals to study the level and types of environmental toxins being passed to children. The startling results showed prenatal exposures to as many as 287 of the 413 toxins being studied. An average of 200 toxins were found per baby and 101 toxins were found in every baby. The 287 toxins included 180 known carcinogens to humans or animals (all cancer-causing chemicals in humans were initially found to cause cancer in animals). Also, 217 of the chemicals cause central nervous system damage (neurotoxins) and another 208 are associated with developmental problems. Unfortunately, no data is currently available regarding the combined effects of these toxins on the human body.
We live in an age where it has become prudent to get tested to measure the toxic burden of prospective parents and to follow up with effective cleansing programs that include nutrient support for the removal of toxins through normal channels, along with diet and lifestyle changes that support a reduced toxic load. These actions may not only enhance fertility but reduce the risks to the vulnerable, developing unborn from the damaging effects of environmental toxins that may negatively impact children’s intelligence, immune function and continued development as well as their happiness and productivity in our world.
