Krill Oil
This month, we are pleased to announce the conversion of Krill oil to Liquid-Fill Capsules (LF Caps™), which provide excellent bioavailability, safety, stability and efficacy. The properties of the LF Caps allowed us to increase the potencies of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA within the Krill oil capsules, creating a powerful blend that takes Krill oil to a new level.
A unique source of EPA and DHA, Krill oil also contains naturally occurring phospholipids to provide for enhanced absorption. Studies have shown that Krill oil can help:
- Maintain Healthy Cholesterol Levels. After 12 weeks, patients receiving 1 or 1.5 grams Krill oil per day experienced a 13.4-percent and 13.7-percent reduction in mean total cholesterol. Subjects treated with 2 or 3 grams Krill oil showed a significant reduction in mean total cholesterol of 18 percent. Levels of LDL, the “bad” cholesterol, also plummeted in the Krill oil group. Krill oil at a daily dose of 1 gram, 1.5 grams, 2 grams, or 3 grams caused a significant 32, 36, 37, and 39 percent drop in LDL cholesterol, respectively while in placebo-treated patients, LDL levels rose by 13-percent. Krill oil’s effects extended to HDL, the “good” cholesterol. At 1 gram of Krill oil per day, HDL levels increased by 44 percent and by 55 percent at 2 grams per day. No significant decrease of HDL was observed within the placebo group, with levels of HDL remaining almost stable.1
- Reduce Inflammation. Krill oil can lower levels of the inflammatory marker known as C-Reactive Protein (CRP). In a group of 90 arthritis patients, Krill oil reduced CRP by up to 30.9 percent, pain scores by 28.9 percent, stiffness by 20.3 percent and functional impairment by 22.8 percent.2 Because CRP is a predictor of the recurrence of strokes, researchers also have noted that Krill oil may be beneficial in patients vulnerable to strokes due to its CRP-lowering ability.3 Additionally, Krill oil contains the antioxidant carotenoid astaxanthin, which has demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory properties. It is thought to influence inflammation by inhibiting inflammatory mediators known as NF-kappaB and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha).4-5
- Improve Overall Health. The higher EPA and DHA content in our liquid capsule Krill oil also will result in significant health benefits since a large body of evidence shows that these two omega-3 fatty acids support heart, bone and cognitive health, improve mood and well being and maintain colon, prostate and breast health.
